In 2011, Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TG) will award $5 million to the Charley Wootan Grant Program. Of these funds, $4 million will be distributed to Texas students, and another $1 million to students in other states, the District of Columbia, or U.S. territories to help pay for their college education.

The first-come, first-served, need-based grant program will provide up to $4,394 per successful applicant for the 2011-2012 academic year.

To become eligible, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and meet other eligibility requirements. Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll, or students already enrolled, at least half-time, in an undergraduate course of study for fall 2011 at a Title IV, two- or four-year college or university, or vocational-technical school, must demonstrate financial need, and be eligible to receive Title IV federal financial aid funding. Vanguard Minority Scholarship Program, sponsored by Vanguard, provides merit-based scholarships of up to $10,000 to minority students pursuing studies in business, finance, economics or accounting. To be considered, the student must be a racial minority, be entering their junior or senior year of undergraduate study in the fall of 2011, be enrolled full-time in an accredited four-year college or university in the United States, and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The student must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
