We award one Scholarship per year to overseas (full fee-paying) students applying for the BSc degree programme in Biology, ענוויראָנמענטאַל ביאָלאָגי, גענעטיקס, מענטש גענעטיקס אָדער זאָאָלאָגי. The Harold and Olga Fox Scholarships will pay £5000 towards overseas fees in each of the three years of the Scholar’s course, subject to satisfactory academic progress.

To apply for one of these Scholarships you must hold an offer of admission to study towards one of our 3-year undergraduate BSc degrees.

To apply for one of the Scholarships please submit with your application:

* Full Curriculum Vitae

* Covering letter in your own handwriting explaining why you wish to study at UCL.

* An essay in English (approximately 1000 words) on any biological subject of your choice (eg. The importance of Biology in the 21st century.)

Email entries are not permitted.

Entries will be awarded according to academic merit. The committee’s decision is final. The deadline for applications is 15th July (or the first working day following the 15th if the deadline falls on the weekend) for entry in September of the same year. The result will be announced in August.

Harold Fox completed his PhD thesis, “Development of the skull and associated structures in Amphibia with special reference to the Urodela,” אין 1951, in the Department of Zoology and Comparative Anatomy, under the supervision of Dr. Michael Abercrombie. Harold remained in the department for the rest of his working life until 1994.

The Amelia Zollner IPPR/UCL Internship Award was founded in 2007 in memory of UCL student Amelia Zollner.


IPPR and UCL co-fund an annual c. 3-month London-based IPPR Internship reserved for a recent UCL graduateas a stepping stone to working in policy or politics. The internship will normally run from October through December, but can take place at any time of the year.

IPPR are looking to start the 2008 Amelia Zollner IPPR/UCL Internship in early June 2008.

Applicants must be final-year UCL students, about to graduate (Bachelors, Masters or Research degree) in any area, interested in and passionate about policy and politics, current affairs and social justice, and the work of IPPR, as well as enthusiastic about political research.

Applicants can come from any country, but must be able to work in the UK (UK/EU nationals or holders of valid work permit).

Applicants should have some research skills, and need to be committed to the aims of IPPR of wanting to build a fairer, more democratic and environmentally sustainable world.

Awards are made by IPPR, on the basis of academic achievement, research skills, relevant experience, and passion. Financial circumstances of the candidates are not taken into account.

The award consists of an IPPR internship of up to three months. The recipient of the Amelia Zollner IPPR/UCL Internship Award will receive the higher of a) £5,000 or b) the equivalent of the current IPPR salary for the duration of the internship.

The A Zollner IPPR/UCL intern will be based at the London office of IPPR, and shall have the same employment benefits and responsibilities as any other IPPR intern, including monthly payments, paid holidays (6.5 days for a 3-month internship), payment of National Insurance and taxes, and training and development opportunities at IPPR events.

His admissions policy for the Faculty of Law aimed at a broad range of students who would enter fully into college life. Professor Holland  took a keen and continuing interest in his studentsextra-curricular activities as well as their academic progress.

The Denys Holland Scholarship aims to support undergraduate students from any country, who would be unable to study at UCL without financial help, and who can demonstrate their intention to make full use of the activities offered by UCL and the Student Union.

Applicants should be

* Holding an offer of admission to UCL for full-time undergraduate study in any department;
* In financial hardship, and be able to demonstrate that without the scholarship they would be unable to study at UCL;
* preferably aged 25 or below at the time of commencing their studies;
* Able to demonstrate that they have broad interests and intend  to be actively involved in and contribute to the life of the College;

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial hardship, subject to applicants demonstrating their intention to play a full part in extra-curricular activities of UCL and the Students Union.

The scholarships are worth £9,300 (= 2007/08 rate) פּער אַנאַם, subject to an annual inflationary increase. Scholars may choose to use all or part of the scholarship to cover fees. Any remainder is paid to the scholar as a maintenance stipend.

Scholarships are for one year in the first instance, but will be renewed subject to satisfactory progress, for up to a total of three years.

The Scholarship may be held alongside other grants, bursaries, awards or scholarships, provided annual total funding does not exceed the cost of fees plus a reasonable sum for maintenance in any one year.
Applications Deadline and Procedure

Applicants will be required to detail their current outside interests and indicate areas of non-academic activity which they would hope to pursue while a student. They will also have to provide information on their financial circumstances and other sources of income being sought.

Candidates must apply for admission to UCL through UCAS (www.ucas.ac.uk) and submit the completed UCL Denys-Holland Scholarship Application Form by the deadline.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Potential candidates must ensure that they submit a full scholarship application by the deadline irrespective of whether an offer of admission to UCL has reached them or not. The UCL Scholarships Office will checkas part of the eligibility check of scholarship applicationswhether the scholarship applicant holds an offer of admission to UCL. Scholarships applicants who have not applied for admission to UCL or who do not receive an admissions offer from UCL will be excluded from the competition.

Complete scholarship applications must be received by the UCL Scholarships Office no later than 1st August before the start of the relevant academic session.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered for funding.

Notification of Results

The Denys Holland Scholarship Committee meets in August, and successful candidates can expect to be notified (initially by email) in late August/early September.
